The Lord Jesus, the Lamb of God was slain to make atonement for the transgressions of man. After his resurrection and ascension into heaven, Jesus serves as our eternal high priest in heaven. As our high priest, Jesus serves as our mediator and intercessor before God. The intercessory ministry of Jesus on our behalf is made effectual because he is endowed with the power of an endless life. His endless life unlike the earthly high priests enables him to serve continually before God as our intercessor. Jesus once lived on earth as a man. Having lived as a man, he is deeply aware of the challenges associated with living on earth. This makes him qualified to empathize with men in their challenges and afflictions. Since he lives forever to intercede for men, he is able to save those who come to God by him to the uttermost.
